The Field of IT: Job and Salary Trends of 2014

money

2014 is proving to be a good year for IT professionals. There has been an over 5 percent increase in IT salaries in the United States alone, and companies everywhere are trying hard to stay up to date with the latest technology trends. As a result, the demand for qualified IT professionals has never been so high.

Businesses are now using marketing tactics to provide customers with interactive advertisements and marketing campaigns. Organization are also opting for a more automated approach to managing existing tasks, resulting in improved production and proficiency and greater profit. The use of data has exploded, and virtualization is becoming increasingly more common place. Hundreds of IT professionals are needed now to create and design these new innovations.

The majority of businesses and organization are looking to hire more IT professionals in 2014. The need is so great that IT employees have experienced an increase in competitors trying to pull them away from their current employer by offering enticing deals. Unfortunately, some may not be enticing enough; IT job offers are being turned downed at an incredible rate of almost 35 percent.

Further, the amount of job security an IT position offers is one of the highest in the nation. Over three quarters of companies say they expect no layoffs in the near future. With wide job availability, incredible employment packages and solid job security, can it get much better? According to the salary numbers, it can. Most IT professionals can expect a starting salary of at least $85,000 with most positions resting comfortably in six figures.

It also seems that computer science degrees cannot be earned fast enough. Within six years, the world will be 1 million computer scientists short. As a result, a degree in computer science is not the only way to enter this growing industry. Employers are increasingly accepting certifications in Information Technology. These include Cisco, PMP, Microsoft Database Admin and CISSP. Combining one of these certifications with a bachelors in any field is a great way to discover new worldwide opportunities.

IT jobs abound overseas as well. China, once known as the manufacturing capital, has now begun to invest in its own IT sector. More and more technological innovation will be coming out of China as the county begins to shift its focus to a more technology friendly market. Similarly, India has made a name in the area of medical technology by designing innovate CT scan machines and other medically marketed technologies.

Out of the companies located in Tel Aviv, Israel, over 20 percent are in IT based fields, and the potential for growth in the city is huge. Kenya is helping to put Africa on the IT map with Nairobi slowly becoming the technology center of the continent. Small start-ups have also started seeking advice from top players in the USA, and are hoping to show the world they too have what it takes.

With IT taking off around the world, now is a great time to invest in the future of technology and the future of our world.

Benefits of Using the Hottest New App-Microsoft Tech Companion

download

In today’s world, it’s all about the apps — smart phone apps, tablet apps, apps for touch screen devices, and apps for your computer. There are more apps available on the web than you can shake a virtual stick at. Some apps are specific to particular devices, such as the Go Pro app, which is essentially useless without a Go Pro camera. Some apps are only for iPhones and others are only for tablets. But make no mistake, there is an app for just about every occasion.

All, or at least the large majority of, apps were created by IT professionals and people with the computer savvy necessary to create the programs. Perhaps the idea came from a teenager in their bedroom or a businessperson sitting in a car, but IT workers were responsible for the programming. And developers and IT professionals have apps, too.

The Microsoft Tech Companion is an app that keeps users up to date on the latest news for Microsoft products, features, and events. The app is downloadable via PCs, tablets, and mobile phones. This means developers and IT professionals can learn about and stay updated on the newest information in the technology world from anywhere, at any time.

In the technology business, where clear communication and staying current are perhaps two of the most important qualities an IT professional can have, this is quite a helpful gadget. Most developers are working together in research teams, and much of their work depends on constant collaboration. The Microsoft Tech Companion shows that the same information can be shared and updated on any device, which has long been known but only recently being put into practice.

When developers need to share ideas with one another from distinct and separate geographic areas, they rely upon the internet. The cloud has become a fantastic tool for developers to more easily share information, and what the Microsoft Tech Companion illustrates is the ability for one company to share the newest information and technology with the world in any form of media at any time.

This new app is already addressing one of the most significant challenges that many IT professionals face today, which is how to use a variety of devices in a coherent and understandable manner. Making sure the app itself can adjust and respond to the device on which it is being used is another way in which developers can continue improving upon existing technology.

The other major challenge facing IT professionals and developers today is a growing amount of data. Every year, with every app and every new website and every new file saved to a cloud or converted to digital form, the amount of data increases. Allowing that data to be accessed from multiple devices is only part of the solution. Providing the energy necessary for storing all that data is a significant issue that must be met head on. Understanding the best ways to store and compress data is a challenge we will continue to face as long as data continues to grow.

Being a Dynamic Team Member

team player

Being a team player is a skill many managers look for in a prospective employee. But, what sets a dynamic team member apart from an ordinary one?  IT Accel offers 5 tips you can implement today to go from being an ordinary employee to a dynamic team member:

  1. Strive for the best. No one wants a team member whose motto is “Hey, that’s not my job.”  Good team members go above and beyond what is expected of them. They are not afraid of taking on new tasks and responsibilities, and if you are the one looking for more responsibilities, it is possible you may have to ask. Just be sure if you get those additional tasks, you follow through and ensure their completion. Sometimes, you will also have to take the initiative and come up with your own ideas. Figure out how to implement them and make them work. Your team will thank you.

  1. Further your skills. Completing tasks and projects the same way over and over again may get the job done, but you are likely not living up to your potential. Analyze your projects and decide what you could do better next time. Identify areas of weakness and seek out ways to improve them. Perhaps some additional training would be beneficial to you. If this is the case, ask your boss. She will likely be more than happy you want to better your performance and may even foot the bill for the training!

  1. Stick to your word. A trustworthy team member is one who keeps his promises. If you offer to take on roles and responsibilities, make sure you see them through. Did you promise your team to arrive at 9 AM for a meeting only to show up at 10?  People will only view you as someone dependable, reliable, and trustworthy if you have a record of following through on your commitments. If you fail to do this, you might be shown to the door.

  1. Participate. It is important to present yourself as an active and involved member of the team. The quickest way to achieve this is through participation. Meetings sometimes do not allow for much participation as a strict agenda is often adhered to. So, how can you participate? During the work day, be sure to make your rounds. Ask team members for project updates, present new or innovative ideas, and seek help with any problems you may be having. Soon enough, your input will be appreciated and sought after.

  1. Use Feedback. Let’s face it. No one enjoys criticism. But a good boss can provide feedback in a constructive manner that will allow you to implement changes to your workflow in the future. If you are not given feedback, ask for it. Some managers feel uncomfortable providing any negative feedback but, if they know you are fine with it, they will be much more likely to oblige. Be sure to follow through on the advice that was given to you. This shows the team that you are willing to learn and improve.
